What does ‘A Little More’ mean?

We call ourselves KLPZ 1380am Country and a Little More. Whether it's Paul Harvey News & Comment, the many segments which constitute Mornings with Keith & Juanita, the afternoon utterances of John Wright, the Rush Limbaugh Show, or those non-country hits you hear during some of our live shows, 'A Little More’ is what we like to think of as a wonderful KLPZ understatement.

What is the music you play just before the news?

During the Rush Limbaugh Show, our top-of-the-hour bumper music is from an instrumental album called Pickin' on Clapton from CMH Records.

How do I call in?

You can call our live shows from 6am till 10am and from 2.30pm till 5pm every weekday by calling (928) 669-2507. Remember, all calls are live to the studio and frequently unscreened , so expect to go on the air! And there’s no delay, so watch what you say. To call Rush from 10am till 1pm, call 1(800) 282-2882, or to call KLPZ off the air it's (928) 669-9274.

Why does the KLPZ team use animal names?

This is a great KLPZ tradition we believe to be due to the influence of listeners of the Colorado River Indian Tribes (CRIT), many of whom have great Native American names. Keith said he would like an animal name, and became The Black-Footed Ferret. From there, the phenomenon grew, and now many of our regular listeners and callers have animal names of their own. (Juanita is the Luscious Lizard and John is the Belfast Beaver.)

I hate Rush Limbaugh.

Well, you could choose not to listen. But we think that, given time, you’ll find that Rush, like the rest of us here at KLPZ, will grow on you like a odiferous fungal mold. After all, he is the most-listened-to radio personality in America. Aren’t you interested to find out what everyone likes so much?

How does Rush Limbaugh fit into a country music radio station?

He doesn’t. But then again, we aren’t just a country music station. Our original format is ‘Country And A Little More’. Rush is an important part of what we’re all about here at KLPZ.

Will you really help me sell my stuff for free?

We will! We call it the Trading Post: Buy, Trade or Sell. Even non-listeners make use of the Trading Post, though they frequently get the name wrong (examples we've heard include the Swap-Meet Show, The Victor Show, The Sell-Trade, You Know That Thing, and many more). It's notorious and meritorious. We like it to air most of the time at around 9:20am, weekdays.

How can I get you the details of my items for sale?

Give us a call Monday through Friday, 8am till 5pm at our office line, (928) 669-9274. Alternatively, if you’d like to wait until the Trading Post is on their air, you can call the show to give details live; call (928) 669-2507. This will give you a chance to plug your item in your own way using your best sales voice. Either way, we’ll write a brief description of your item, along with a price and a phone number. It will stay on the Trading Post for 10 days.

Is the Belfast Beaver really from Ireland?

Yes. John Wright was born and raised in Belfast, Northern Ireland and came to America and KLPZ in 2004. He is beginning to lose his accent, but - trust us - he’s Irish through and through.

Can I hear KLPZ in Quartzsite?

Yes. Our range of coverage includes Quartzsite, Desert Center, Blythe, Parker Strip, Lake Havasu City and Salome. For more information and our coverage map (now available in PDF format), click here.

I am a winter visitor to Arizona. I wish I could continue to listen to KLPZ when I return to my home state in the summertime.

Some news here. As many of you know, a plan to simulcast a live internet audio feed of the KLPZ signal has been around for a while. A few setbacks including the illness of KLPZ I.T. guy Bill Jennings have pushed things back a bit, but we hope to have something in place by the end of 2007. Meantime, you can watch us do our live shows on our webcam feed. Thanks for your patience on this.

Who is Keith Douglas?

Keith is host of Mornings With Keith & Juanita. You know; Amazing Man and Nine-Tenths. K-11. Master and Commander of the Airwaves. Locked-and-Loaded Douglas. The Bruce Lee of Radio. The Black-Footed Ferret. (Do not be fooled by others; they’re mere weasels in disguise.)

Why should I advertise on KLPZ?

Other radio stations play automated music all day long. That’s okay. But KLPZ listeners are there for something different: live, local shows, latest local news, informed talk and opinion, something to make them laugh, something unscripted, fun and original, something that doesn’t have to end within the allocated 90-second timeslot. So, we have active listeners, not passive listeners. Your message goes out, hand-in-hand with daily live programming on the dominant radio station in this area. For more information on advertising, click here.

Where can I meet the KLPZ team?

Come along to one of our many live remote broadcasts throughout the year: they’re a lot of fun and we’d love to see you there! And we have an open-house policy at the station. Come and see who's around anytime after 10am, Monday thru Friday at 816 6th Street in Parker, AZ.

Can I buy some KLPZ merchandise?

Not usually, unless we have a special promotion of some kind. But there are plenty of opportunities to pick up some goodies absolutely free! Play live on ‘You Call It Friday’ for hats, T-shirts, tote bags, visors, mugs, keychains and more.

What else can I win?

This changes throughout the year. We have tickets to all the main events: music festivals, races, movies, concerts, and the Rennaisance Festival. We regularly give away meals, CDs, Domino’s pizza, games, and KLPZ has been known to part with toys, cash, furniture, and a car. What makes us unique is the sheer volume of giveaways - few weeks go by here on the air without the chance to win.

Who are the Deputies on the morning show?

La Paz County Sheriff’s Seargent Alan Nelson, Deputies Jeff Haynes, Cruscell, Lucas and others are regular contributors to Mornings with Keith & Juanita as they come in regularly to provide the Sheriff’s Department Roundup. They usually stick around for a while to join the mayhem, and to provide the constant, remote possibility of someone being ‘tased’ with their Taser stungun live on the air. Both Keith and Juanita have had this interesting experience, and the results weren’t pretty, as listeners who heard it will remember.

What is the Sheriff’s Department Roundup?

In this unique segment, The Roundup lists regularly the names of people who have been arrested by our law enforcement agencies, and what they were arrested for. It is provided as a public service that keeps citizens aware of what is happening in their community. As we all know, suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Click here for more information.

Do you really like the music you play?

It’s been a while since country music was all about dogs dying. We love our classic cuts to the latest hits, and you’ll notice that the music we tend to favor is slightly different to what you’ll hear on other country music stations which use automated song selectors. We lean toward country with some attitude, and once we add ‘A Little More’, rock and blues crossovers, we think you’ll like it almost as much as we do.

How does your station make money?

We are a completely private enterprise, funded entirely through sponsorship and advertising revenue. Some people are surprised to hear that we don’t recieve any government compensation for our community involvement. We're a business, born of pure all-American market capitalism, and our wonderful sponsors allow us to be involved in as many community programs and events as we are; in the process we create great relationships with all our advertisers.

Has anyone ever paid you $250 for a transcript of ‘News You Can’t Use’?

Two people have so far; both paid with Monopoly money.

What is ‘Wine-Tasting with the Belfast Beaver’?

Probably the fastest-growing radio triumph in America. John Wright allows listeners to vicariously taste the finest, most expensive wines of the world live through his uncannily accurate descriptions as he sips in this afternoon show segment. ‘Wine-Tasting’ is now aired in sporadic specials.

What is ‘Radio Voodoo’?

In 2005, a trailer used for conducting outside remote broadcasts was stolen from KLPZ by people who thought it would contain all our treasure. That was a bad move on their part, since KLPZ is connected with some powerful people. Early one Friday shortly thereafter, we decided to place voodoo curses upon the perpetrators, live, on the KLPZ morning show. Using an alarming combination of cajun music from the heart of New Orleans, a green voodoo doll, and some voodoo spells from Haiti by way of Dahomey, we cursed the theives, their families and everything that they touched. Up until the day of the event, we took calls from listeners who had also been wronged, and we added them to our list of curses. We got our broadcast trailer back, by the way, and since have repeated the event using Radio Voodoo to curse the perpetrators of many crimes in our listening area and beyond. Our last attempt was on October 20th, 2006.

You guys weren’t serious about the voodoo, though, were you? We could hear you giggling.

We’ll leave that to your imagination.

How do you pronounce ‘Juanita’?

Wuh-neeta. And she can do it in Spanish.

What other programs will I have heard on KLPZ?

Blues Deluxe, 25 Years of Hits, Classic Country Today, Into The Blue and Country’s Cutting Edge are our one-hour music features from 1:30pm each weekday. You will also have heard various mini-programs during our live shows, such as the In-Fisherman Report, Little Known Facts and The Ultimate Sacrifice. On Sunday mornings, we turn the airwaves over to some inspirational talk and music in Praise Break. During football season, KLPZ covers Parker Broncs games live from home and away games on Friday nights, and Suspense Theater airs Saturday nights in seasons.

Can I submit a quiz to the morning show?

Sure! We love to get quizzed by listeners. Choose your topic, and give around 10 to 15 questions in a sealed envelope. In a second sealed envelope, place the answer sheet. Be creative! You can bring your quiz to KLPZ's studio or mail it to us at 816 6th Street, Parker, AZ.

What community programs are you involved with?

KLPZ supports a number of annual events and programs, such as Take A Kid Fishing, the County Fair, Graduations, Red Ribbon Week, and Parker Broncs football. In fact, we invite our sponsors and advertisers to join KLPZ with :30 second messages of their own, a portion of those sponsorships being pledged back to the programs. If you are interested in helping us support our community in this way, please call us at 1(800) 448-1380.

Please feel free to ask us anything else you have in mind!
Call 1 (800) HIT-1380 and we'll do our best to answer.
